Brief

Basic, level one difficulty kit.  It's a clone of a Semroc Lune R-1, but square.

Components

Comes with pre-cut balsa fins and a balsa nose cone.  The body tube is thick, square and comes in two parts, joined by a balsa connector. Fins are installed through the wall in pre-cut slits.  The motor mount assembly is similar to Quest rockets, with the nose cone cord tied to the motor as opposed to Estes kits where the shock cord is glued to the interior body tube.  Parachute comes disassembled.

The kit came with an emery board, sanding paper squares of various grits, a q-tip, and waterslide decals.  Instructions were printed on glossy paper with black and white photo illustrations.

Assembled rocket stats are: 22 inches long, 1.1 inches diameter, 2.0 oz. weight.

Construction

Solid level one kit.  I had some trouble with the motor mount, but that was because of my clumsy fingers.  I have had a lot of trouble with fin alignment on other kits before this one.  The through the wall design made it easier, although you will have to pay attention to make sure everything lines up.

The instructions were easy to follow- black and white photos clarify the directions.  I really like that the NAR guidelines are printed on the back page.

No cons.

Finishing

Instructions are thorough.  Finishing will be simple: prime, then paint in your choice of colors.  No special skills needed.  The instructions did note the difficulty of working with waterslide decals.  I don't intend to use them anyway.  The weather hasn't been good so I haven't gotten to prime and paint yet, but I anticipate no problems.

Construction Score: 4

Flight

Haven't flown it yet.  Given the weight and size, I'd say the recommendations of a B6 or C6 is good.  Note: this rocket uses 18mm motors.

Recovery

Parachute recovery. Haven't launched it yet but the chute is of average quality.

Flight Rating: 4

Summary

Pros: good quality kit with great, well illustrated instructions.  A little bit more involved than an estes lvl. 1 kit.  I like the fact that you tie the shock cord to the motor mount instead of gluing it to the body tube.

The wind and rain finally cooperated and I flew the Lune R-4 today.  Launched on a C6-3. Flew straight and true to a respectable height, and descended without issue.  I highly recommend this kit.
