Favorite Rockets: Stretch Sandia Tomahawk and The Scratch Blue Bomber

Biography:

I first launched a model rocket in 1980 with my younger brother. Fast forward to 2006 when both my sons got interested in rocketry, after they saw a Alpha III go up, we've made it a fun pastime together.

Yep, there's actually 3 of us doing rockets. We've decided to go with the team name SRP (Scratchbuilt Rocketry Program)

Therefore, we are know as the SRP Crew.

We run a website known as the Unofficial Rocktry Records Lists http://www.mts.net/~rns/URR/All-time%20Altitude%20records.htm We needed to know how these rockets flew, and know details, like how high and for how long they go. (Altitude and Duration)

We fly when we get the urge and usually fly out at the family farm during the Spring and Fall when the crops aren't in yet.

We've flown over 200 rockets from 1/2A motors up to a experimental J motors.

ALPHA

Flight

Wind was ridiculous. Gusting up to 40mph winds.  Didn't weathercock as much as originally thought. Harsh deployment yet the shock cord seem to withstand it.  The wind took it down field about 3/4 mile. It was found near the property line next to some trees. All intact.  Duration ... [More]

Rocker D

Flight

It weathercocked into a very strong wind.  We were still suprised how much height it got considering.  The violent deployment was just after apogee. Unfortunately the nose cone and chute split off and is probably still floating around somewhere. The main body and fins will be ... [More]

Laser 442

Flight

Deployed properly and finished with a 42.5 second flight duration. No damage at all. Not bad! - C11-3 - Kilcona Park [More]

FASTBOY

Flight

Straight up and loud.  Very nice deployment but the wind changed slightly and pushed it into the tall trees. Yep. it got treed. Luckily we shook the tree enough to dislodge the stubby rocket.  The duration was quite good at 109 seconds. - D12-7x2 - LaBarriere Park [More]

Rocker D

Flight

Huge and straight. Finally this rocket deployed perfectly in this park.  It took the whole length of the park to recover it.  The duration was a sparkling 125.0 seconds. NRS recovered it with a bicycle. Absolutely no damage. - D12-7 - LaBarriere Park [More]

I-ROC

Flight

Too windy.  We angled the launch system way too much. Not very good height but was an impressive motor we built. - I168P - St. Lupicin Farm [More]

A20 Demon

Flight

Good boost. The C6 had no problem lifting this guy up. The motor mount was modified a bit to except the 18mm diameter motor. 40 seconds of duration with easy recovery 50 yeards away. - C6-5 - Kilcona Park [More]

V-2 (Victory 2)

Flight

Exciting rocket.  It weathercocked a fair bit but came under chutes without a problem. The main body took 85.5 sec. while the nose cone/chute came down at 114.8 seconds. We recovered everything nicely as it was retrieved by the farm's quad.  No damage even though the wind dragged it a ... [More]

CamRoc 3

Flight

This rocket went off very fast. It had a keychain camera which took the highest pictures to date.  Unfortunately the chute did not deploy which caused the airframe to drop quite fast. It was found near the treeline near the farm.  Two fins were detached on impact. The great part was the ... [More]

Big Bertha

Flight

We always like seeing this rocket go.  Everything worked fine on it plus deployed the lime green chute perfectly.  It had a fairly long duration of 128 seconds. Quite an enjoyable flight. - F20-7 - St. Lupicin Farm [More]
