High Speed Launch LV2.3 October 17, 2010 (2011-08-01)

PSAS successfully launched "Launch Vehicle No. 2.3" (LV2's third airframe) with a roll control module and "spin can" on Sunday October 17th, 2010 at Oregon Rocketry's (OROC) Brothers' launch site. On-site video analysis confirmed that the roll control module and spin can worked! This is 600fps video of the launch. See psas.pdx.edu for more.

July 2011 - Putting the Rocket on the Tower (2011-08-08)

July 31st 2011 we headed to central Oregon to launch our rocket with the same roll control as the previous launch, but this time with much of the full flight computer we have been planning for years in in place and running. This included the PowerPC flight computer, a Hemisphere Crescent GPS receiver board, and our new 2.4 GHz Amateur TV broadcast system with overlay. Unfortunately the rocket motor failed on ignition, ejecting the fuel (unburnt) from the motor casing. The force of the depressurization lifted the rocket off of the launch rails, to about 30-40 feet into the air. Although the drogue parachute did eject, the rocket came down fairly hard and suffered minor damage to the fin canister and aeroshell.

Launch Onboard with Data Overlay (2011-06-15)

A proof of concept for data overlay videos. This was our October 2010 launch from onboard the rocket with graphs and displays of the altitude and velocity from the simulation. An HD version with real data from the sensors is in the works

July 31st 2011 we headed to central Oregon to launch our rocket with the same roll control as the previous launch, but this time with much of the full flight computer we have been planning for years in in place and running. LV2C Launch in Brothers, OR June 27, 2010 (2011-08-01)

This is a view of Portland State Aerospace Society's third generation launch vehicle (LV2) from a hill to the East of the launch site. The rocket was 13 feet tall and ended up going over 15000 feet on an N2000 motor. For more information see psas.pdx.edu

PSAS rocket launch - onboard camera - Brothers, OR June 2010 (2011-06-15)

This is our footage from our rocket mounted camera during the launch of LV2c June 27th, 2010. We went to an altitude of 15600 feet. The control system (the fins you see moving) were attempting to keep the rocket from spinning. We are researching why it did not work as intended.
