Saturn 1B Assembly Part 9 - Orienting the Wraps
http://www.ApogeeRockets.com - Orienting and trimming the wraps to fit the body tube of the SIV-B stage on the Apogee Saturn 1B model rocket kit. Orienting and getting a proper fit of the vacuum form wraps is a critical step in the assembly of the rocket. Take your time on this step. It is better to make the wraps a little long, rather than a little short. If they are short, there is a greater chance of ruining the wraps when you glue them down. The reason is that if you have to stretch them too much, you’ll cause micro-fractures of the plastic. When you put CyA glue on them, it will wick into these micro-fractures, and melt the plastic even further. This will cause big cracks in the plastic. For this step, you’ll need a pencil, ruler, aluminum angle to draw lines on the tube, and some masking tape.
