Brian La Rose L3 Cert Flight Video The Big Money Large
"The Big Money" is my Level 3 certification project, which successfully flew to 11,495' on 8-Sep-18 with Tripoli Minnesota in North Branch, MN. Named after the Rush song, the total expense was over $2,173, not including adhesives and misc hardware. Based on a Madcow Tembo Massive, 5.5" diameter, 100.5" long, flying on an Aerotech M1340W DMS motor (98mm/4" in diameter). She flew naked with just a vinyl Starman on it. She's earned her paint now! Electronics: Missileworks RRC3 and Stratologger CF (switched with Eggtimer Wifi Switches) for altimeters, MissileWorks T3 GPS tracking system (which let me walk right up to it in the cornfield). All mounted on a pair of Rocket Junkies 3D-printed sleds made by David Fliger. Also had two Com-Spec radio trackers, as insurance. Recovery: 2' RocketMan Mach II Ballistic drogue 12' Rocketman Standard main with 1' Fruity Chutes pilot chute. Throughout the prep and recovery I was assisted by many, including Michael Farrell (who showed up very early to help me out all day!), Jerry Waste, Joseph Schneider, Todd Carpenter (Captain Checklist!), and Rob Grygar, doing his TAP duties. Couldn't have done this as early in the day as we did without you guys, we may have set a L3 certification launch time record! :) Special thanks to my TAP mentors: Dale Hagert, Gerald Meux Jr, and Rob Grygar. Also special thanks to Gary Stroick from Off We Go Rocketry, my motor and parachute vendor, as well as adviser.
