This video was captured onboard the SL5 rocket that was successfully launched into space on May 20th 2011 for NASA's Summer of Innovation program managed by the New Mexico Space Grant Consortium . Below you can see from space the newly finished runway at Spaceport America. The spinning motion is created by canting the fins of the rocket and makes the trajectory more accurate. The SpaceLoft rocket is de-spun once in space to allow microgravity experiments to be conducted. At the end of the video (45 seconds ito the flight) the vehicle is at an altitude of 170,000 feet MSL and traveling supersonic at a speed of three and a half times the speed of sound (3,700 ft/sec).
