Therion Flight Test 1 - MIT Rocket Team

MIT's Rocket Team took Project Therion to an URRG Launch. Therion stands 11ft 8in tall and weighs in at 58lbs. All components were student constructed except the nose cone and the motor. The vehicle was powered by a CTI M3400WT. The rocket's apogee was 10,889 ft and the vehicle attained a maximum velocity of 753 MPH, or just over Mach 1. A recovery anomaly caused the drogue parachute to reef and provide insufficient force to extract the main parachute, however, the all composite air-frame withstood the landing admirably. Data from this test will be used to improve our IREC rocket, which will next fly in Green River, Utah.
