Flight Log - 2011-10-25 - Bob Francis's Buccaneer 1

Our first rocket launched capable of flying on D level engines.

Actual Altitude: 835.00 Feet

Temperature 67 degrees.  Low clouds and dark.  No wind at all.  Prepped Buccaneer 1 with a light and the Altimeter One in the payload bay.  Good launch.  Lost during ascent, but recovered visual when ejection charge went off.  Parachute deployed and opened.  Rocket drifted down and landed about 325 yards north by northwest of the launch site (across the main street).  Upon recovery, discovered the payload section had separated from the rest of the rocket.  The eye screw had pulled out of the balsa wood.  No damage to the recovered part of the rocket. 30 minute search for the payload, but called search on account of darkness. 

After 30 minute search on 10-26-2011, located payload section about 160 yards east by northeast of the launch site.  It was undamaged and still sealed.  The altimeter was undamaged and had measured the maxiumum altitude of the flight.  Note: Longest duration flight - 1:40.
