I actually *forgot* about this contest, so I had to throw something together at the last minute. I decided to build the third one in the list.
For the cones on the ship I ended up using 2 3.5" funnels. Stupid, I know...but it was all I had available. I cut a 2.5" section of 4" LOC tube for the center band. I cut a section out of that tube so it would fit snuggly around the funnel edges. The motor tube is a 6" BT20 with an engine block in one end and epoxied to the top half. I cut off the narrow part of the bottom funnel, and the motor exhaust can exit cleanly.I drew a fin pattern on some leftover balsa from an estes kit, and cut out two fins. Fins are epoxied to the bottom funnell, and the bottom funnel is epoxied inside the center band.
No active recovery - it's light enough that I don't have to worry about it, even with a couple of ounces of BB's secured into the top half. I can always throw a small chute or streamer inside the funnels if needed.
