Adding a wood bar to the nosecone to keep the payload from shifting

The unusual design of this particular nose cone requires me to glue in a small wood bar to prevent the payload (an altimeter) from shifting forward into the nosecone.  I tried using the wood glue (visible in this photo), but it didn't work very well, snapping off the plastic with little force. What is really holding it in place is CA glue.  The screw-eye and it's boss molded into the nosecone are not needed with my payload modification.
