This is a dual entry, as the models are the result of interchanging parts between two common kits. Kitbash isn't quite the right word for it, but I don't have a better one yet. The resulting rockets are obviously called the Fat Bertha and the Baby Boy. I credit or blame the inspiration for this kitbash on a suggestion from my wife Judy.

Construction of each rocket is pretty simple. I replaced the Fat Boy tube with a piece of BT-80 scrap the same length, but I probably could have tried to patch over the pre-cut fin slots. Or alternately, build a 3-fined Fat Bertha, but that just wouldn't be right.

I cut off the fin tabs from the Fat Boy fins, as the Bertha tube isn't slotted, and is a different diameter. Then I simply swapped the fins on the two rockets. All of the internal parts of each rocket are as per the respective kits.

Both rockets are finished with Econokote. The color selection for the Baby Boy was pretty obvious, the Fat Bertha was done in colors similar to one of the ancient catalog photos. The stick on name decals from each kit are cut in half and the second half exchanged producing the appropriate names as seen in the photograph.

Both rockets were flown successfully at the October NIRA launch, the Fat Bertha on a B6-2 and the Baby Boy on an A8-3. Since nothing but the fins were changed on each rocket, I'd recommend the same motors as the original kits did.

Now, where did my old Interceptor and V2 kits go :-)
