Brief:
38mm 214Ns single use HPR rocket motor.

Construction:
The package contains:

• 1 motor
• 1 Quickburst Slim Gem ignitor

There is no external thrust ring on this motor. If needed, one must be built up using masking tape.

Finishing:
Since this is a single use motor, no assembling is needed.

Flight:
I tried this motor out in my Art Applewhite Stealth 38mm oddroc. I wrapped a layer of tape and slid the motor into place.

It was NOT recommended that the Quickburst ignitor be used with this motor as it has been known to clog the nozzle and cause a CATO. My dealer even showed me the remnants of one of these motors that CATOed because of that. One of my fellow club members made me a thermalite ignitor which worked great.

This motor, as well as all other Ellis motors, uses Thor's Hammer propellant, which produces a bright yellow/orange flame, a moderate amount of white/gray smoke, and a nice roar as well.

At launch, the motor took several seconds to pressurize and then launched the Stealth straight up into the air with a good amount of flame, smoke, and noise. Although the label states an 8.3 second burn time, the burn time was more like 4.5-5 seconds to me. At motor burnout, there was a nice trail of smoke left from the tracking smoke grain. This is a great motor for 38mm oddrocs.

PROs: Long burn, nice flame, smoke, and noise.

CONs: Rather difficult to ignite.

Recovery:
With the motor still in place, the Stealth still recovered normally. The Stealth does not require a motor ejection charge for recovery. Since this motor is plugged, another form of recovery deployment may be needed for some rockets.

After firing, the motor is very hot, especially the aluminum plug at the forward end. Great care must be taken if it is necessary to handle the fired motor right away.

Summary:
I really liked this motor, as it was a great choice for my oddroc. Since this motor has a very small nozzle, I must recommend that a smaller ignitor be used such as a single dipped Magnelites, AT FirstFire or FirstFire Jr, or Quickburst Twiggy would be excellent choices.
