Brief:
This is an OOP (Out Of Production) RTF (Ready To Fly) rocket that came with a complete Quest launch kit a few years ago. It included a Quest Launch Pad very similar to an Estes three-footed pad, a nice hand grip controller powered by a 9 Volt battery, wadding, ignitors and 3 Quest B6-4 motors. The motors were so old that the glossy outside paper wrap had come off, so I discarded them by soaking them in water.

Construction:
This kit was nearly RTF (Ready To Fly). While it was a sealed package, I was surprised that it did not have a parachute in the rocket nor in the sealed package. Could that be while it was only on sale for a brief amount of time?

There was not anything to building this rocket, it came done out of the package with no parachute. It does have a higher quality than average Kevlar® to the motor mount recovery system, yet the Kevlar® exceeds the length of the body tube by 4 inches, increasing the chance of a zipper--more so than if it were just short of the body tube allowing only the tubular nylon cord to come into contact with the airframe during recovery. The Kevlar® to the motor mount attached to the 2 foot piece of nylon was nice to see, but it should be at least three times as long.

LaunchFinishing:
This rocket came finished with a red nose cone, purple plastic one piece fin can, and a colored body to meld those two colors together. I personally think that purple and red look awful together.

Flight:
1st flight 8-14-2004 Challenger Club Katy Texas 9am Quest C6-5.

The launch lug on the Strobe is very small and too long as it is molded into the one piece fin can. We had to sand a launch rod down just to get it to fit. First flight was very nice and true and it was recovered about 200 feet from the launch pad. The Quest C6-5 produced a lot more smoke than an Estes C6-5 and the flight looked great

Recovery:
As the package did not come with a chute, I added a 10" nylon chute from Thrustline.

Flight Rating: 3 out of 5

Summary:
Not bad, a good value with the launch pad and motors. Quest had a great starter set here but I hate to think of people launching this with no parachute. Even with the provided B6-4s, no recovery system would be grim.
