Apollo Little Joe II Cardstock Model Test Flight (2011-08-08)

My second cardstock model rocket converted to flight. The classic Apollo Little Joe II in 1:48 Scale on an Estes C11-5 motor. Regretfully, I couldn't keep the model in the frame throughout the flight as it was pointing straight down for a few seconds. Almost a heart-stopper but it landed safely and will fly again.

Cadet Johnson's Big Rocket (2011-06-03)

One of my proteges--C/Captain Johnny Johnson of the Sanilac Composite Squadron (Michigan Wing--Civil Air Patrol) launches his mailing tube rocket for the first time on a cluster of four C6-3 motors to a height of over 100 feet. Parachute did not deploy and the model was recovered with light damage. The launch pad is mine and made from PVC pipe and fittings from plans in the NAR Member's Guidebook. This event preceeded my own special launch video by about an hour and filmed on the same location. Cadet Johnson is a graduate of Great Lakes Region CAP Model Rocketry Encampment.

Honest John Model Rocket Launch--Alpena CRTC (2011-07-02)

The distinctive silhouette of an Honest John ("HoJo") missile graces the skies over Alpena, MI during the 2009 GLR CAP Summer Encampment--Model Rocketry Encampment. Launch operations carried out on the CRTC base atheletic field. This is an Estes 1:10 Scale model kit flown on a D12-3 motor. MI Wing CC and staff were present for this demonstration. (The model recovered safely behind the camera btw.)

Quest Planet Probe Launch (2011-05-29)

Another model rocket with no moving parts and a great smoke trail. Guaranteed not to drift off the field. Goes 200 feet up on a B6-0 motor. High drag recovery. An aeroshell type model that recalls NASA Mars probe re-entry vehicle tests above the NM dessert back in the 1970s.

RTC Launches Again! (2011-07-09)

First flight of my Dr. Zooch Skylab Saturn V model on an Estes B6-4 motor. Added a Top Flite ripstop nylon parachute FTW.

Spudnik Launch (2011-06-28)

A little foam ball with dowel rod antenna representing the Soviet Sputnik is lofted at the Alpena MI CRTC during the week of the GLR CAP Summer Encampment 2009. The cheapest model rocket out there, but fun to build and easy to prep. Comments by cadets and staff involved in the model rocketry course may be heard during the flight and recovery. A glimpse of the "Spudnik" is also provided. Vaughn Bros. offered the kit.
