scratch_midibrute-withbrothersBrief:
A down scale version of a Big Brute. My brother had done a down scale of this rocket so I thought I’d do a medium scaled one, this time a 25% reduction. Based around a two-piece NC-50 nose cone from a Gemini DC kit.

Construction:

  • BT-50 body tube
  • two-piece NC-50 nose cone
  • 2 50-20 centering rings
  • 18mm motor mount tube
  • 1/8 inch launch lug
  • elastic shock cord
  • 2 foot length of Kevlar® cord
  • 24 inch streamer
  • 4 balsa fins

The fins were reproduced the same way my brother did his through the use of a photocopier. Other than that, the rocket built itself. I added mass to the nose cone as the small rear fins would not provide enough stability.

scratch_midibrute-onthepadFlight:
I flew this on an A8-3 to start with resulting in a good flight just not very high. The second and third flights I used a B6-4. This was excellent with good height and a near perfect ejection. The model was too small to fit a parachute, so I used a streamer. The streamer slowed down the descent a little. Recovered without damage.

Summary:
Truly fun to make as it was my first scratch built rocket and also my first downscale project.
