RockSim 3D of Jeff's RocketBrief:
This is a single stage, low to mid power kit for a beginner-novice rocket builder. A good kit for someone who wants to move up to mid to high power rocketry. It utilizes through-the-wall fin mounts and a steal cable shock cord anchor.

Construction:
The kit includes:

  • 1- 8" ( exposed length ) balsa clone of a Loc Legacy nose cone
  • 3 aircraft grade 1/8" fins
  • 2 plywood 1.5" to 1" (24 mm) centering rings
  • 1-4" long 24 mm motor tube
  • 1 steal cable pre-attached to one of the CR for SC anchor
  • 1- 1/4" Launch lug
  • 1- 12" parachute
  • 1-3 foot piece of 1/4 elastic shock cord
  • 1- 17" long x 1.5 ( 38 mm ) Loc style ) body tube
  • 3 page instructions

The instruction were straightforward, very easy to understand with diagrams to boot. Went together in no time at all. The body tube was pre-marked with where to cut the fin slots and mount the launch lugs.

Didn't need any "special tools" and used the tools I already owned .

The only draw back that I could find would be: the instructions mentioned a plastic nose cone and not the balsa one it came with. I had to add some weight to compensate after the first flight .

Finishing:
I went with plain old Krylon Black and Safety Yellow.

Construction Rating: 5 out of 5

Flight:
For the first 3 flights or so I used a D12-5.

On the first flight it was launched on a rather short rod (only 4 ft ) and came off a little squirrelly due to the fact that the NC was made of balsa instead of a heavier plastic.

I've flown it about 5 or 6 times now with the biggest motor being a G55-10.

Recovery:
The shockcord is okay, but I decided to update it a little and add a section of 1/8" Kevlar® cord between the steal cable and the elastic cord. I also replaced the 'chute with a streamer for a faster recovery. No real wear on it other than paint chips...

Flight Rating: 4 out of 5

Summary:
Pro:

  • Top quality material
  • Great kit it will out last any Estes rocket .

Con:

  • Need to add nose weight if it's made of balsa like mine was .

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5
