Onboard Video from Current Water Rocket Altitude Record (2020 Feet) (2011-05-29)

World record flight of 2020 feet (615.69 meters), for rocket powered by water and compressed air. Onboard video taken by US Water Rockets' X-12 water rocket June 14, 2007. Second flight of two required by the Water Rocket Achievement World Record Association class A rules. wra2.org The average of the two flights was 2044 Feet (623 meters) For more water rocket videos visit www.uswaterrockets.com

Part 3: MD-80 / 808 Car Keys / Gumpack Camera Timestamp Removal (2011-06-25)

This tutorial explains how to modify inexpensive micro-cameras to disable the time/date datestamp overlay feature and get unobstructed video capture. This is the third and final video in this series which explains how anyone with skill using basic tools can inexpensively modify one of these commonly available micro-cameras so that the date/time overlay is no longer displayed. The lack of a setting to shut off the date/time overlay in these micro-cameras has been a common complaint among users, so we have combined the groundwork done by several members of the Water Rocket Forum (waterrocketforum.com) with our own hardware and software talents and produced a video which we hope will be useful to the numerous people who own one of these cameras. This segment explains how to download our freeware program for the Texas Instruments MSP430 Launchpad Evaluation Board that turns it into a Serial Flash Memory Programmer and use that to modify the firmware chip extracted from one of these cameras in Part 1 of the tutorial. We then show how to reinstall the modified chip in the camera and test it. As a bonus, we included a rocket launch onboard video taken with a camera modified using this method from an altitude of nearly 2000 feet. (Special thanks to Chuck, Philippe, and Bill for their efforts in hacking these cameras)

Water rocket Crash from 1819 feet (with onboard camera) (2011-05-29)

On October 29, 2005 an attempt was made to set a new Water Rocket altitude record. First we launched our X-12 water rocket to an altitude of 1364 feet on a "shake down" flight to test the wind direction and test systems. The flight went flawlessly. On the second flight which was to be the first of the two required to confirm a new record the parachute tangled and did not open at apogee. Instead it opened several seconds after when the rocket had completed it's ballistic arc and was traveling at high speed. The chute was torn from the rocket (this can be seen and heard in the video). The rocket then crashed from an altitude of 1819 feet which destroyed the camera, altimeter and flight computer.

Water Rocket HD Onboard Video (Winter Launch with Parachute Failure) (2011-05-31)

US Water Rockets Project 3000 Video Log #1 Testing of Full High Definition Water Rocket Onboard Camera Module. Winter Launch of X-12 Water Rocket testing new electronics and camera module for Project 3000. Due to cold temperature, parachute fails and rocket comes down at high speed with some very interesting results.
