Biography:

Got into rocketry back in 2004 as a former science teacher, teaching force and motion. Launched those basic Estes kits a dozen or so times for kds. Then sort of got out of it. I got back into rocketry after my son was born when he started taking an interest in it at the age of five. Again, we started with the basic Estes kits. A friend invited me to his rocketry club to launch our rockets, and my interest got rekindled for sure! Presently, my son and I are working our way up from low power kits from Quest, Estes, and Rocketarium, to getting our try at mid-power. Eventually, I'd like to continue gaining experience launching low and mid-power rockets, and then acquire my Level 1 certification for high-power.

So far, the rockets we've built are the:

Estes Crossfire

Estes Amazon

Quest Courier

Quest Magnum Sport Loader

Rocketarium AMRAAM (destroyed 10-10-2021)

Estes Doorknob

Estes Luna Bug

Dynastar Amarok (built 11/15/2021)

Nuclear Wessel

Flight

Very lower than expected altitude. Might be because of the short size couples with the weight of the RunCam2 camera and shroud mounted on body tube. Only launched once due to weather becoming poor towards end of the day. Will try again next month without camera shroud and with a G53 motor. Nuclear ... [More]

Cheetah Cub

Flight

Another successful flight!Went a little higher. Plastic parachute definite needs to be replaced with a nylon. The nose cone was recycled from a destroyed AMRAAM kit from Rocketarium. - D12-5 - Dalzell, SC [More]

Cheetah Cub

Flight

First flight was successful! Flew straight and true and stable. Low and slow. Lower altitude than simulated with D12-5. I may need to adjust weight in simulations to get closer results or adjust for real wind speed to see how this affects altitude. Otherwise, it was a pleasing flight and lots of ... [More]

Terra GLM

Flight

Second flight. Also went well. Parachute got more crinkled, but Terra GLM didn't land with any damage due to being small and light. Will replace parachute with a nylon type conducive for this rocket. - C6-3 - Dalzell, SC [More]

Terra GLM

Flight

First flight. Unknown altitude due to size of altimeter. Flew successfully, but parachute crinkled up despite powering with baby powder. - B6-4 - Dalzell, SC [More]

Tootsie Roll

Flight

First time flying with an Aerotech composite motor. First time flying a G motor. Flight was spectacular with black smoke. Could not see the rocket at apogee as it went into a cloud. Used a Jolly Logic Chute Releease device to bring the rocket back fast/closer to launch pad. Launch was successful. ... [More]

Amarok

Flight

First and last flight of Amarok. Shock cord snapped away from body tube as a result of using a weak swivel connector (fishing type). Eggtimer ION altimeter recorded flight. - F15-4 - Dalzell, SC [More]

Carried a toy army sniper that belonged to my son. - C6-5 - Dalzell, SC [More]
