This past weekend at Oregon Rocketry’s Missile Madness launch, I flew my Hyper 54 rocket to an altitude of 16,502 feet on an Aerotech K270W motor. This motor has a long burn of almost 8 seconds. The rocket broke the speed of sound on its boost with a top speed of 1322 fps (Mach 1.2).The rocket landed 3.4 miles from the launch site (I need a smaller drogue parachute or a streamer to limit longer distance drifting at higher altitude ) and I recovered it by driving to within a half mile of its landing GPS coordinates and hiking to its location. This was my highest flight to date. The rocket is a MAC Performance Rocketry kit and is 62” long, 54mm diameter, and weighed 8.3 lbs loaded on the pad. Thanks to Lloyd Humez for being a great wingman in helping me prep and assist during the flight.
