Aerotech Cheetah Moffett Field 3/15/14
This Cheetah was my first mid-power rocket purchased in 2011. I've attached an 808 keychain camera to it, built a/v & payload bays for it, and maybe flown it 20 times. I've also crashed it four times now, but not catastrophically so I've been able to repair it each time and still fly it to test components. This was at the LUNAR model rocket launch at Moffett field. Motor is an Aerotech 24mm RMS F39-9T used with an adapter for the 29mm motor mount. Igniter was an Aerotech first fire jr, and it must have been a hot one since it blew itself out the nozzle, yet still lit the motor. I've never seen that before. I used an Adept 22 altimeter & 9 volt battery for dual deployment with the motor ejection charge as a backup. I'm pretty sure both motor & apogee charges went off at the same time. Max altitude was only 566 ft. and the main charge was set for 600 ft. so it went off very shortly after the other two. Sorry, the camera was mounted below all that in the booster so you don't get to see it. Also I apologize for the spin, but it was my first mid power build and I did a poor job on fin alignment. At least it keeps it stable, I guess. Drogue was 18" and main was 24". The whole set up weighed just a little over a pound on the pad. I just love that they make a motor the size of a D12 that can toss a pound up to 500 ft and the reloads only cost about $4.00 each once you get the case.
