Flight Log - 2011-04-03 - Gene Wolski's Flying Frog 3

The Flying Frog 3 is a scratch built rocket.  Some details:

  • 3" diameter LOC airframe with tube coupler internal reinforcement
  • LOC 3.0" avionics bay
  • Missile Works RRC2 mini altimeter
  • PML B-09 G-10 fins (0.063")
  • 38mm motor mount with Giant Leap Slimline retainer

The rocket suffered a main deployment failure on its first flight.  Since the apogee charge did fire, the rocket landed fairly softly.  The payload section did suffer some damage where I had not installed the last 3.0" tube coupler reinforcement.  The double tube construction is indeed tough!  I'm replacing the payload section, and the FF3 will fly again soon.

Ju;y 2011 update - the damaged payload section has been replaced.  I need to paint the new payload section (perhaps some new StickerShock frog decals?) and repaint the nose cone.  The FF3 is basically ready to fly again!
