LJP2 Rocket Launch
Rocket launch near Kenosha, Wisconsin, at Richard Bong State Recreation Area. First launch is an Estes Bull Pup on an Estes C6-5 motor. We shot this rocket successfully once. My son and I had shot his Estes Prospector rocket, once on an Estes B6-4 motor and once on a C6-5 motor. The second two launches are each of a Sirius Interrogator, flying on Aerotech RMS 24/40 E11-5J motors. Three attempts were made to launch this rocket. The first attempt resulted in a successful igniter burn with not motor ignition. I'm still getting a hang of building these motors. The last two launches are each of an Aerotech Arreaux rocket, each launched with an Aerotech RMS 24/40 E18-7W engine. The first launch was a success although I was afraid the chute wouldn't open... seven seconds seemed way too long of a delay with the rocket plunging towards the earth. In windy conditions all day we'd set our launch rods into the wind slightly. The last launch must've suffered a sudden stillness in the air, with the rocket over-correcting and becoming lost in the woods or tall grass. Luke and I looked for an hour or more, into the darkness, with no success. Unfortunately we lost our 42" rocket.
