Flight Log - 2011-06-25 - Ray "AcroRay" Miller's Vampire

Restoration of a vintage one from a Firing Line set.  It was missing the BT decal, and the fin decals were badly water damaged.  So I made reproductions based on scans of the fin decals and catalog manual images of the rocket.

Flight Date: 2011-06-25
Rocket Name: Vampire
Kit Name: Estes - Vampire {Kit} (0704) [1973-1976]
Flyer's Name: Ray "AcroRay" Miller
Motors: A10-3T
Expected Altitude: 50.00 Feet
Launch Site: Tripoli Pittsburgh, Uniontown, PA
Actual Altitude: 40.00 Feet

Low flight, and the bird came in fast and hard with its original 'chute.  This was actually about the 5th flight for this rocket since I obtained it and restored it.  The modern  Estes engines' "shotgun ejection" really gave the body tube a beating after these flights, with a lot of carbon scoring and some melting.  So I think I'll clean up and retire this one to display only, since it looks much prettier than it flies.
