THOY Condor

THOY - Condor {Kit} [1992-1993]

Manufacturer: THOY
Style: Sport

[Rocket Pic]Brief:  This is a vanilla rocket kit, but the finished product is not only big and impressive, but of the highest quality.

Construction:  All of the parts were in the kit. They were made from quality raw materials and fit well. Very little sanding was required. The kit went together fast, without a hitch or problem and only took about 4 to 6 hours (who knows when you spend a couple of minutes every day or every other day over a 6-week period). The instructions were simple and complete, leaving no uncertainties about the construction. The nose cone cleaned up easily and the fins (sanding the leading and trailing edge) were a snap. The finished product is very impressive and flies great. I will buy more Thoy kits in the future.

Finishing:  The kit came without decals, so it's up to your imagination and skill to finish it. The only problem I had was due to the length of the rocket. Walking through the house with a 5-foot-tall rocket is not natural and I banged it on the door jam and ceiling more than once.

Construction Rating: 4 out of 5

Flight: The Condor flies great. So far, I've only used F20-4W motors, but they make for a spectacular flight. Not too high and a majestic lift off. It's easy to prepare and you can friction fit the motor or build a motor retention system into the back end, although the rocket diameter makes that a bit tricky for Kaplow clips. The bulk of the wadding has a tendency to remain in the rocket and if you don't pay attention, you'll get quite a buildup.

Recovery:  Standard recovery system, although you attach the shock cord to a metal wire which is attached to the upper motor mount centering ring. It works fine!

Flight Rating: 5 out of 5

Summary:  Hey, this rocket is a fairly simple build, looks good, flies great on F's (or better) and is impressive just leaning against the table. A real "looker". Buy it! You won't be disappointed. It's inexpensive too!

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5

I love this kit. I built and used the Condor for my Level 1 certification flight back in 1991.  I launched it on an H 70-M motor at the Dry Lake in Lucerne California back then.  It was a very solid kit.
