Brief:

The 13mm IQSY Tomahawk kit is designed to fly on 13mm motors from 1/2A3 to A3-4T. It is a 1/16 scale streamer recovery model.

Construction:

The kit contains:-

  • Set of illustrated instructions,
  • A 13mm body tube
  • Engine block.
  • Basswod Fin material
  • Fin Templates
  • Kevlar® & elastic shock cord
  • Balsa Nose Cone
  • Streamer material
  • Self adhesive decals.

All components were in solid condition, and seemed very high quality. The instruction sheet was extremely well written and illustrated. I was surprised for kit of this size to find Kevlar® being used for the shock cord - a nice touch.

Construction of this kit was simple. The fins have to be traced from the template and hand cut and then carefully sanded. There is only an engine block to mount in the body tube this being a minimum diameter model. Before inserting the engine block, the Kevlar® is tied around it. Once installed the elastic cord is joined using loops to the Kevlar® and then to the streamer and the nose cone using an eye screw. That's it

Finishing:

Finishing is easy enough; a coat of flat white, paint one fin black, along with a 1/2" ring at the top of the body tube. The nose cone is painted red. I did seal the fins & nose cone with a few coats of sanding sealer first. Self adhesive decals finish the body tube.

Flight:

As I couldn't attend our regular club launch, I decided to go out and launch this on the local park playing field. First flight on was on a 1/2A3-2T, and it shot off the pad like a dart, deployed exactly as expected and came down gently on the streamer, being recovered very close. There was virtually no wind a very slight breeze.

Second flight on an A3-4T. Again screamed off the pad, too fast to get a pic and flew higher than I even expected. Thought I was gonna lose it outside the field boundary it was so high, but as the wind was virtually non-existent (this was the hottest day recorded in UK history!) it came down so close to the pad it was unbelievable.

Summary:

All in all, this is a great looking min diameter kit. has produced a great kit. It's simple to assemble and looks great. Flights are fantastic!!
