St. Andrew's Priory rocket launch in Hawaii, Feb. 19
St. Andrew's Priory launched this model rocket launch from the grounds of Windward Community College on Oahu, Feb. 19, 2011. The rocket, propelled by ammonium perchlorate (a component of solid rocket fuel), lifted off at one-third the speed of sound and reached a height of 781 feet. The Priory rocket team was seeking to qualify for the prestigious Team America Rocket Challenge (TARC) in May in the Washington D.C. area. The TARC's qualifying criteria is that launches go no higher or lower than 750 feet. The Priory team made five more launches on March 19 but still was unable to qualify for the TARC which invites only 100 teams nationwide.
