McAllen ISD Rocket Launch

First RGV and RGVCG Rocket Club assisted McAllen Independent School District in a demo launch of a model rocket to kickoff a rocketry program in McAllen ISD. They plan to bring the program to every campus and to compete in Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), as well as in local competitions to be developed by the school district in conjunction with First Rocketry. The rocket is a LOC Precision WiRoc and was launched using a Cesaroni G79-Smokey Sam rocket motor. Final altitude was about 1000 feet. Recovery was dual deployment and drogueless with about a 28 inch main chute deployed at 400 ft. Altimeter reporting the data back via telemetry and firing charges at apogee and main deployment was an Altus Metrum Telemetrum. This what generates the computer voice announcing altitudes. It also reports back gps position of the rocket throughout the flight. Projections and Simulations were performed using RockSim software.
