Flight Log - 2012-06-10 - Rich DeAngelis's Striker AGM Iris

T' Quest Striker AGM is a simulated military missile. My particular rocket be modified with a 3.5" payload that stretches it t' over 30 inches long, and painted t' an entirely different red-white-blue scheme featurin' some gold trim lines. Another modification be started by t' shippin' company. T' body tube was damaged in t' center, me bucko, so I wrapped it with a heavy paper shroud and then strengthened t' body with eight basswood strakes that looks more like it was meant t' be a design feature instead o' a patch-job. Well, blow me down! T' hide it in plain sight t' strakes were painted gold. Aye aye! It looks like it be painted more for an air show and nay like an AGM missile. Avast! I think with this model I have finally learned that models o' this size and weight (30” and about 5 oz.) should have a 24mm mount. Begad! T' 18mm motors that are affordable are just nay powerful enough for satisfyin' altitudes. I can get about 300 feet on a C6-3 motor though, so it's high enough. Begad! This should be strong enough t' fly with a composite D10 motor. Arrr! This rocket has flown higher than t' Washington National Cathedral and t' US Capitol in Washington, shiver me timbers, DC.

Flight Date: 2012-06-10
Rocket Name: Striker AGM Iris
Kit Name: Quest - Striker AGM {Kit}
Flyer's Name: Rich DeAngelis
Motors: C6-3
Launch Site: Halifax, PA
Actual Altitude: 303 Feet

I needed t' send this up one more time t' finish initial test flights and t' prove that t' C6-3 be t' best motor choice for this rocket. Well, blow me down! Blimey! T' weather was very warm and calm for this flight. Ahoy! Blimey! In t' past I have measured over 5 Gs o' acceleration for this model, but today it left t' pad only peakin' 4.5 Gs, however t' average acceleration for t' 2 second burn be higher than usual at 1.7 Gs.  This particular motor be a slow & steady burner.
Striker reached its highest recorded speed o' 73 mph and coasted for 2.9 seconds t' an altitude o' 298 feet where t' ejection occurred just a tad early. Begad! T' rocket then stopped at 303 feet - t' highest recorded for this rocket. T' entire flight and coast be very straight up with little rolling.
T' parachute deployed fully and t' rocket then descended at 10 mph t' a grass landin' about 50 feet from t' pad for a total flight time o' 25.3 seconds. This was a perfect flight t' start a very good flyin' day.
