Sapphire data
Animation of the June 23rd 2013 launch of the actively guided Sapphire hybrid rocket. The animation shows the attitude, speed, altitude, acceleration and ground track of the rocket. The rapid vertical descent is the result of a failing or incomplete drogue deployment at T+49.9. During the subsequent fall, the roll gyro maxed out at -1500 deg/s at T+82.7, causing a loss of inertial navigation and hence the animation stops here. Data from the onboard GPS unit show that the descent continues at an average -53m/s until splashdown at T+192 For more information on the specifications of the rocket see: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2013/06/t-minus-3-days-sapphire-rocket-facts-and-nerdy-stuff-to-know/
