Flight Log - 2014-07-05 - Steve Lindeman's 3D MD (Mega Daddy)

Estes Big Daddy (2162) modified for 3-24mm engines, and extended by 25.5" with a 3" body tube that my AeroTech "Initiator" game packed in, plus a 4" baffled coupler and plywood fins to make the finished rocket 45" tall and weighing in at 566g without motors.

Flight Date: 2014-07-05
Rocket Name: 3D MD (Mega Daddy)
Kit Name: Estes - Big Daddy {Kit} (2162) [1998-]
Flyer's Name: Steve Lindeman
Motors: 3xE9-4
Expected Altitude: 1,036.00 Feet
Wind Speed: 7.00 mph
Launch Site: JMRC-M.I.S./Graves Farm Campground

Second flight for this rocket. Loaded her up with 3 E9-4's and took her out to the pad. When the countdown was given all 3 motors lit and she raced into the sky straight up to about 1000' or so. Wish I had an altimeter to verify. Parachute was again at apogee and rocket drifted even further than before. Had a good half mile hike and a fence to jump for recovery. Outside of some minor smoke discoloration around the bottom and fins and some blistering of paint on inside of tube around motor mount, no futher damage.

Note: While both flights were a success I realize now that the round 36" parachute that I have in it is too large and need to downsize to a 30" unless I want to keep chasing it in anything but a calm sky.

2nd Note: Rerunning sims confirms that I need to downsize to a 30" parachute.
