Flight Log - 2013-05-26 - Steve Lindeman's V-2

Semi-scale model of the German V-2 rocket.

Flight Date: 2013-05-26
Rocket Name: V-2
Kit Name: Estes - V-2 {Kit} (3228) [2012-]
Flyer's Name: Steve Lindeman
Motors: C6-5
Wind Speed: 4.00 mph
Launch Site: Francis Park - Lansing, MI

Sixth and final flight of the day. I decided to try a 'C' motor for a slow, dramatic lift-off. Grabbed my 24-18mm adaptor and loaded it with a C6-5 as I was out of 3 second delays. Not that it would have made any difference as it turned out to be a BIG MISTAKE Yell. What the hell was I thinking?Undecided Rocket was under powered and barely made a 100' or so. Came crashing down through a large evergreen before ejection charge went off. Will be a long, long time before it ever comes downCry.

Today is Sunday and I just returned from the park. It's been almost a month since I lost this one to a rocket eating tree and we have had several storms, one with 40+mph windsSurprised. Rocket is still firmly anchord in treeFrown. I wish I had it back but have just finished building a replacementSmile. That's two D powered bird's I've lost to this parkYell. The other was my first Big Daddy on its maiden flightCry. May have to reconsider launching D birds in this park except on calm days.

Made it back into the park today on foot as park is still closed to vehicles. Rocket is gone after the severe winter we had. Hope it found a good home before it was destroyed or tossed away by the park rangers. Glad I bought a back-up.
