Stonebreaker in a bright silver finish

First public rollout of my Stonebreaker

I have to give credit to Steve Lindeman from Lansing Park, MI for the idea to paint this rocket bright silver instead of the suggested white.  His picture on this website looked so much cooler then the stock white that I was inspired to do that myself.

Credit also goes to DynaStar for such a visually inspiring design.  The kit was not the best quality but the design made it worth the effort.  The kit does not supply any shock cord rubber, the parachute is much, much too large for the weight of this model, and the kit didn't even include a simple metal spring clip or an adaptor to use 70mm length motors.  Most visually disturbing is the peel-and-stick decals, which on the red and blue body wraps, was about 1/8" too short to wrap entirely around the body tube!

Fortunately, the photographic image and/or distance makes this model's finish appear much better than it actually is.  My Rustoleum brand paint was too light and runny, didn't adhere well to paper and cardboard, didn't cover very well and took many, many days to harden enough to recoat.  I also used Rustoleum's primer.  Worst of all, I had considerable cracking or "crazing" of the paint finish, requiring several complete sand-down to bare and recoats before I got an acceptable finish.  I still can't paint the nosecone tip black because even after many days of curing, the silver paint is too soft to mask using celophane tape.
